It all started with just an idea…

When I realized that many teens suffering from life-threatening illnesses miss out on many of their high school memories, a thought came to mind. What if I came up with a special event for these kids that they will cherish forever? High School Prom is one of the big events of a teenager’s life, and had always meant a lot to me growing up, so what if we created this really cool prom for the kids? I bounced this idea off of several friends and people in the community; needless to say it gained momentum and my idea quickly became a reality.

In the beginning, I figured we would invite all the cancer patients in my local Fort Lauderdale area to this special Prom. Before long, I realized there are many other kids in the neighboring counties as well – I wanted to invite them all! With an entourage of community supporters rallying behind me, in 2009 we assembled more than just your usual Prom – we provided the ultimate prom experience for kids battling cancer. With that, A Prom To Remember was born and kids from all over South Florida were in attendance.

I am grateful for the support of our surrounding communities and hope to eventually provide A Prom To Remember for kids all across the country.

Brandon Opre
Founder/President

Brandon Opre created“A Prom to Remember” in 2009 and still serves as President for the organization that provides the ULTIMATE prom experience for kids battling cancer. Mr. Opre grew up in Florence, New Jersey and earned a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University with a major in Finance and a minor in Economics as well as an MBA from Florida Atlantic University. He has been in the financial services business since 1995 and has worked at Prudential, Charles Schwab, and Morgan Stanley before becoming an independent financial advisor and franchise owner with Ameriprise Financial. Brandon became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER in 2001 and helps individuals manage their investments and plan for retirement. He has previously volunteered with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Taking Stock in Children, and the American Association of Individual Investors(AAII). He is also involved with the Share-A-Pet(pet therapy for nursing homes) and Penn State Alumni of Fort Lauderdale. Brandon enjoys mountain biking, kite surfing, golf, snowboarding and spending time with his wife Christine, his two daughters Viviana and Ella and their dog Maxwell.

Travis Burton
Vice-President

Travis Burton is a technology executive with over 20 years of experience delivering large scale business and technology transformational projects, such as ERP implementations, mergers and acquisitions integrations, process engineering, software selection and implementations and platform upgrades. He has implemented program management offices, developed project management competencies and world class technology practices within organizations and delivered major capital projects for employers and clients. Travis currently serves as the Vice-President of the Unforgettable Prom Foundation’s Executive Board of Directors. He has held that role since 2012 and has been involved in the Prom since 2010 along with his wife Karin and children Michael and Amanda.

Travis Burton
Vice-President

Travis Burton is currently working with Bulletline in Miami, Florida. Prior to coming on board with Bulletline, Travis was an IT Director at Cross Country Home Services and Spherion and a management consultant for Accenture and Steven Douglas Associates. Over the past 17 years, Travis has specialized in providing project management expertise to mergers and acquisitions integrations, enterprise application implementations and other transformational projects. As a Project Management Professional (PMP), Travis has implemented program management offices, developed project management competencies within organizations and delivered major capital projects for employers and clients. Travis currently serves as the Vice-President of the Unforgettable Prom Foundation’s Board of Directors. He has held that role since 2012 and has been involved in the Prom since 2011.

John Heinemann
Secretary

John serves as Secretary and is on the Board of Directors for the Unforgettable Prom Foundation.  John is from Katy, Texas and moved to South Florida in 2002. He, his wife, Lisa, and son Nikolas, have had active roles supporting the Prom since its inception in 2009.  John obtained his Bachelor’s degree from Southern Methodist University in Dallas and his MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL.  John has worked in solid waste management for 25 years and currently manages operations for Waste Connections in South Florida.

Erin O’Brien
Treasurer

Erin O’Brien is serves as Treasurer and on Board of Directors for the Unforgettable Prom Foundation. She is a certified public accountant(CPA)with public and private sector experience in the accounting and tax fields. Ms. O’Brien graduated from Florida State University after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and a Master of Accounting degree with a concentration in Taxation. A native of South Florida, Ms. O’Brien has volunteered with many Broward County nonprofits, serving as volunteer, audit committee member, Treasurer, and on the Board. She joined the Board of Directors of a Prom to Remember in December 2011.

Erin O’Brien

Erin O’Brien serves as Treasurer and on Board of Directors for the Unforgettable Prom Foundation. Patrick Daoud
Board Member

Patrick Daoud joined the Board of Directors in 2015 after having been involved with A Prom to Remember for many years. He and Daoud’s Fine Jewelry sponsor the Prom’s”King and Queen” Presentation annually at the Prom. Mr. Daoud also plays a critical role in local business outreach for the organization, facilitating fundraising opportunities. He is a lifelong South Florida resident and owner of Daoud’s Fine Jewelry – South Florida’s only member of the prestigious Jeweler’s of America 100.

Jarrod Baer
Board Member

Jarrod Baer is a Performance Manager for NextGear Capital in the South Florida market. NextGear Capital is an industry leader in the inventory financing sector for independent auto dealerships built on the solid foundations of customer focus, technology and service. Jarrod currently resides in Wellington, FL with his family. Jarrod enjoys golfing, fishing, and spending time with his family in his free time. He is the Operations lead for A Prom to Remember Fort Lauderdale and has served on the Board of Directors since 2011.

Kimberly Knausz
Board Member

Kimberly Knausz joined the Board for A Prom to Remember in 2013 after volunteering with the organization since it was founded. Kim is the VIP and celebrity lead for both the Fort Lauderdale and Cleveland Proms. Currently an Estate Agent with One Sotheby’s International Realty, Kim has been a licensed Realtor in the South Florida market since 2005 and a resident of the area since 2003.   Kim earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing from John Carroll University in Cleveland, OH.  Since then, she has gained experience in the fields of sales, marketing and operations.

Jason Ksobiech
Board Member

Jason Ksobiech currently serves as Marketing Chair for The Unforgettable Prom Foundation. He is also currently Director of Marketing for Mednax Radiology Solutions. Prior to joining Mednax, he was Marketing Director for Cross Country Home Services, a nationwide home services organization. Mr. Ksobiech also has experience in the pharmaceutical and travel industries. A native of Memphis, TN, Mr. Ksobiech graduated from Louisiana State University after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and a Master of Science degree with a concentration in Marketing.

T.J. Sharpe
Board Member

T.J. Sharpe brings 15 years of consulting and IT experience to A Prom to Remember. Mr. Sharpe volunteered prior to being elected to the inaugural Board of Directors in 2011. He currently serves a speaker, writer, and patient advisor to the biopharmaceutical and clinical trial industries as a patient leader. Following a Stage IV melanoma diagnosis in 2012, Mr. Sharpe set out in search of a treatment that would give him a chance to see his two young children grow up. His Patient #1 blog chronicled his first immunotherapy clinical trial, and gave him an opportunity to be a patient thought leader in the pharmaceutical industry. He represents the many patients who don’t have a voice in their journey, and has given his role at the Prom even more significance. He and his wife Jennifer live in Fort Lauderdale with their children Josie and Tommy.

Gabrielle Carrera
Board Member

Gabrielle Carrera has volunteered since 2011 and currently serves as Fundraising Chair. She established the first high school club as a junior at A.W. Dreyfoos, which is still dedicated to raising funds and awareness. In 2012, she was awarded A Prom to Remember’s Volunteer of the Year. She works closely with the fundraising team to plan events and leads collegiate and high school clubs, helping them plan for their events and success. Gabi is currently a Field Sales Consultant with Henry Schein Dental and partners with her customers to drive brand, merchandise, equipment and technology, which help dental practitioners create fulfilling and profitable organizations. Gabi enjoys traveling, including Tallahassee to see the Seminoles win, spending time with her brother Dominic, and running on the beach.

Mark Hopper
Board Member
Mark Hopper has served on the Board since 2018 and responsibilities include Fund Raising & Event Planning. He is originally from New York and currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, FL with his wife Amy.  Mark currently works for Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor. Mark has worked in the financial services industry for 12 years.  He is an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with friends and family.
Marin Rankin
Board Member

Marin Rankin has served on the Board since 2018 and her responsibilities include fundraising and programs & services.  She is originally from Baltimore, Maryland and currently resides in Parkland, Florida.  Marin works for Enterprise Holdings as the Talent Development Manager for South Florida.  Prior to that, Marin attended the University of Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration.  She enjoys traveling, sports and country music.
